Tendonitis or what?

Last November 2008, I had an appointment with an Orthopedic for a wrist pain. I thought that I had sprained my wrist as a result of putting my left hand under my pillow. Tau2 the Doc says it's 'Tendonitis'. What is tendonitis?

Tendinitis (informally also tendonitis), meaning inflammation of a tendon (the suffix "itis" means "inflammation"), is a type of tendinopathy often confused with the more common tendinosis, which has similar symptoms but requires different treatment.[1] The term tendinitis should be reserved for tendon injuries that involve larger-scale acute injuries accompanied by inflammation.

Swelling in a region of inflammation or partial tear can be detected visually or by touch. Symptoms can vary from an ache or pain and stiffness to the local area of the tendon, or a burning that surrounds the whole joint around the inflamed tendon. With this condition, the pain is usually worse during and after activity, and the tendon and joint area can become stiffer the following day as swelling impinges on the movement of the tendon.

Standard treatment of tendon injuries is largely palliative. Use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs combined with rest, orthotics or braces, and gradual return to exercise is a common therapy. Initial recovery is typically within 2 to 3 days and full recovery is within 4 to 6 weeks.[2] As tendinosis is more common than tendinitis, and has similar symptoms, tendinitis is often initially treated the same as tendinosis would be. This helps reduce some of the chronic long-term risks of tendinosis, which takes longer to heal.

I was given 2 choices: either to inject steroid OR to use a wrist splint for 4-6weeks. Since I was about to give birth in 1 month time, I chose the injection. If I were to wear a splint.. I can't even carry my baby...:(.

6 months later...

The wrist pain came again. The pain was since a month ago. I wanted to be my own doctor so I bought a splint and a bandage from the pharmacy. But the pain didn't go away. Since I can't bear the pain, I told hubby to bring me to see a Taichi somewhere in Likas but unfortunately when we arrived he just left to tend a sick person. We were asked to come back in about 3omin. But hubby can't wait and so he called one of his friends to ask for another Taichi master. We were then recommended to go and see Uncle Yek who is a Sinsang (Chinese massaeu?). Went there last Mon...he massaged my left hand from the tip of my finger till my neck. It was so painful, I nearly cried. Luckily, I brought along a towel and bit it during the massage session. 15mins later, he applied a chinese medicine herb onto it and bandaged my hand. I can only open the bandage the next night and be careful not to wet it. Paid RM60 for it, and thanked him.

Today, went again to see Uncle Yek as the pain has come back. Ni lah ni belum really heal properly, oredi I carry files, and do this do that. This time around, it was not as painful as the 1st time. He massaged it for about 15min and again applied some chinese medicine herb and gave the same advice, not to wet the bandage. Uncle Yek advised to rest my left hand for about 2weeks. Paid RM60 again, and thanked him.

I just hope that by massaging it, it doesn't get worst...urut tu urat lah, pukul2 the pain area cos kena masuk angin lah or the darah tidak jalan.

My Bundle of Joy - Zander Avantang

As 30th Dec 2008 was my due date and since I haven't given birth, my gynae Dr. Ramesh advised me to check-in into Rafflesia Medical Centre, Penampang for an inducement. RAFFLESIA MEDICAL CENTRE is a privately owned medical centre offering primary and specialized tertiary healthcare services. RMC is located in Taman Millenium, Penampang along the Jalan Lintas highway. So, off we go to RMC. Arrived there around 7:30am and proceed to the 1st Floor where I register myself. Wanted a 2-bedded room and there was none available at that time so, I settled into a 1-bedded room and there were so kind enough to give me another bed for hubby to sleep. The room was quite comfortable. I had my own bathroom and tv (only RTM1,2 and I think TV3, sorry no Astro). There was something wrong with the air-cond but didn't bother to complaint at that time. The nurses started putting the ....hmmm...what's that called...fetal ECG to my tummy. This is to observe the fetal heart rate during contractions, which gives the obstetrician information about how the baby is tolerating labor.

So, hubby and I waited, and waited, and waited till noon. But nothing happen...and so we waited, and waited again. Still nothing happen. It was already after 2 or 3om that I was getting hungry. So, hubby went to tapau nasi goreng after seeking permission from the nurse.

Around 5:20pm, suddenly I felt a sharp pain..(since this is my 1st pregnancy donno much about contraction but heard it's like menses pain but it's more painful). Told hubby and he started counting..2min, 2min..that's when he quickly called the nurse to check me. Now, I know that's how the contraction pain is...hehe. I was already 2cm dilated.

Around 9pm++, can't stand the pain. Told to get the Dr. Ramesh and opt for a c-section. But Dr. Ramesh advice me to just tahan. But how to tahan if it's really painful. At last, I was given a painkiller jab on my buttocks. But it didn't helped either. Mum was putting Holy Oil on my forehead and tummy. I was sweating...and crying..:(.

Around 11pm, told hubby to get the nurse again. This time, I REALLY cannot tahan. I gave up in trying to deliver normal. Everything was so fast, I was asked to sign a Form and the nurses was getting me ready for the c-section, changed into the hospital gown, do whatever is necessary. Wanted hubby to be in the Operating Room but when hubby asked the nurse she says that since this is an emergency c-section, tidak perlu masuk.

Finally, Dr. Ramesh pulled baby Zander Avantang out of my open tummy at 11:54pm..(6min to 31Dec). Weight: 3.45kg, Lenght: 50cm, Head: 3.3cm......can't believe it that I'm a Mommy at the end of 2008.
Spent New Year at RMC with hubby. Check-out from RMC on the 2Jan 2009.
Mommy and Daddy loves you dear Zander...

Mengalum Fishing Trip June 2009

(Pic above taken during one of his many fishing trips)

As early as 5am, hubby woke up to a smiling face as he is going for his Mengalum Fishing Trip. We left the house at 6am and proceed to the KK Pasar.
That's where the meeting point is as all the fishing boats are docked there.
Poor Zander has to wake up so early to see his Daddy off.
This is hubby's first trip for 2009 as i have just delivered last 30th Dec to our first child.
Hope he will bring lots and lots of ikan. Hubby's boat name for this trip is "SeasStar".
As for Zander & I, we will be going 'Balik Kampung' to my parent's house for the weekend.
There's no place like home...Home Sweet Home..
